Movement Re-Patterning for Rehabilitation

Core Module

Length

2 Day

Who is it For?

This course is for health, fitness and sports professionals who work with

musculoskeletal disorders occurring from running and multi-direction sport:

  • Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Podiatrists

  • Rehabilitation Specialists & Sports Therapists

  • Sports Scientists & Physiologists

  • Sports Coaches and Strength & Conditioning Coaches

Course Overview

This course will take you through a unique and functional approach to re- habilitation and will focus on re-educating movement patterns interrupted after injury, surgery or inactivity. You will learn a series of functional tech- niques that you can immediately use in your practice.

This movement re-patterning methodology has been developed to edu- cate the neuromuscular and proprioceptive systems, not only on how to move, but how fast to move thereby enhancing movement efficiency, movement performance and injury prevention.

First, you will learn to analyse movement patterns using the DMS Functional Movement Analysis. This will teach you how to spot uncontrolled , ineffi- cient and compensatory movement.

You will then learn a series of techniques and exercises that are designed to correct the firing sequence within the CNS, correct the transition time within the CNS, develop motor control and improve overall functional movement. The movements are progressive from simple-to-advanced patterns and from low-level-to-high-level. You will learn and experience basic movement re-education to functional neuromuscular stimulation, to dynamic movement development.

It is a very practical-based course with lots of physical participation in order that you can fully understand the correct technique and experience the physical effects of the movements.

Course Tutor

Mike Antoniades

Mike is the founder and Performance Director of Sport Dimensions and the Run-ning School, specialising in speed coaching, movement re-patterning and reha-bilitation after injury or surgery.

Mike has achieved an incredibly high success rate utilising this unique methodol-ogy for rehabilitating injured athletes and helping them to run more efficiently and faster.

This rehabilitation methodology is the combination of re-building the kinetic chain and functional movement through neuromuscular stimulation and real time re-education training. Mike emphasises the key goals of identifying the pri-mary causes of dysfunction and retraining more efficient movement patterns and constant assessment to ensure objectives are met with each progression of the athletes rehabilitation.

This methodology makes it possible for athletes with very complex and chronic injury histories to return to running with clear goals and training tools to prevent re-injury. A similar methodology is then used to devel-op speed and power.

Mike has been a coach for 30 years and has worked in the UK, Europe and the USA. He is a qualified foot-ball coach, speed coach, strength & conditioning coach and rehabilitation specialist. He has worked as a coach at professional level in the UK and Europe has coached thousands of elite and young runners, tri-athletes and track & field athletes. Mike is a coaching consultant for a number of professional sports clubs, national sport federations as well as professional athletes in the UK and Europe.

Clients include among others, athletes and teams from: Chelsea FC, Chelsea Academy, Bolton Wanderers, Stoke City, Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town, Arsenal, Saracens, Bath, Harlequins, Celtic, Blackburn, QPR, Elite Track & Field athletes including World & Olympic Gold Medallists.
